What is We the People: The Citizen and the CONSTITUTION? We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is a dynamic, constitutional studies program for Grades 4-12.

Who can come? Elementary, middle school, and high school teachers. If you have attended institutes in the past, you are eligible but priority will be given to new applicants. We are accepting 30 this year and usually have a waiting list so apply early.

WHAT IS THE COST? Nothing… All expenses, including meals, travel, and lodging are paid.

WHAT UNITS IN THE WE THE PEOPLE BOOKS WILL THE INSTITUTE COVER?

  • Beginning with 2008, we are going to be on a two year cycle. In 2008, we will cover Units 1, 3 and 5 and then in 2009, we will cover Units 2, 4 and 6.

What do participants receive?

  • The opportunity to hear and mingle with some of the top Constitutional scholars in the United States: Dr. Fred Spiegel, Professor Emeritus from the University of Missouri-Columbia; Dr. Rick Hardy, Chair of the Political Science Department, Western Illinois Sate University; Dr. Judy Failer, Professor of Political Science, University of Indiana at Bloomington.
  • The institute will conclude with a hearing at the Supreme Court of Missouri and a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion.
  • Demonstrations on how to use this exceptional program.
  • Instructional aids.
