Attached is a copy of the notice that was sent to all members of the Board of Governors, calling a special Board meeting by telephone conference on June 27.

The meeting convened and Mr. Birkes indicated that a quorum of the members of the Board of Governors was present.

Mr. Copeland further explained the purpose of the telephone conference meeting as set out in the notice of this meeting. Specifically, the Board was asked to consider appropriating up to $25,000 from reserves in order to conduct focus groups and/or polling regarding public attitudes surrounding House Joint Resolution 55 and the amendment, which will appear on the November ballot, that would authorize changes to the State Salary Commission. Mr. Copeland further explained The Missouri Bar’s interest is in allowing Missouri judges to receive fair and adequate compensation and, under the current system, judges have not received a pay increase for six years.

Following extensive discussion, the Board of Governors authorized up to $25,000 from reserves to be used in connection with focus groups and/or polling regarding public attitudes about the amendment that will be on the November ballot affecting the State’s Salary Commission and the compensation of judges. A motion to approve this was made and seconded and was approved. Judges Bresnahan and Kintz abstained from discussion and voting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
