Background
Judge Sutton was appointed to the circuit court of Clay County (7th Judicial Circuit) in January 2003.  She graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a B.A. in communication studies and then from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law with a juris doctor degree.

Before her appointment to the circuit court of Clay County, Judge Sutton served as an assistant county prosecutor and also was in private practice.  Her community interests include being a member of the Liberty Church of Christ and a Bible school teacher.  She has been involved with the Children’s Advocacy Center and served as a member of its advisory board.  She has been involved with Synergy Services and been a member of its Community Response Team.  She has also been involved with the Northland Greenbook Initiative, which addresses domestic violence and child abuse.

Discussion
Attorneys who responded to survey questions rated Judge Sutton as meeting or exceeding their expectations in all categories.

The committee also reviewed one written order of Judge Sutton and found it to be well reasoned, supported by law, clear and understandable. 

Recommendation
The 7th Circuit Judicial Performance Evaluation Committee that Judge Janet Sutton BE RETAINED.
