Assistant General Counsel
The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and to protect and advance legal interests or mitigate risk to achieve the mission and purposes of The Missouri Bar under the supervision of the General Counsel.

Assistant General Counsel

Purpose: The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and to protect and advance legal interests or mitigate risk to achieve the mission and purposes of The Missouri Bar under the supervision of the General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel will also be responsible for overseeing specials projects by providing high-level professional and technical support to special committees and projects, with a primary focus on the Judicial Performance Review (JPR) Committee by serving as the main point of contact for committee leadership, delivering essential administrative, organizational, and logistical support to ensure smooth and effective operations. The position involves frequent interaction with committee members, bar staff, Missouri lawyers and judges at all levels, and requires adaptability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The position also involves collaborating on statewide communications regarding committee work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to the Executive Director and staff of The Missouri Bar under the supervision of the General Counsel.
  • Monitor and stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards that impact The Missouri Bar to anticipate and identify legal issues and assist in developing legal strategies and solutions.
  • Conduct legal research; prepare legal documents (including opinions, memoranda, briefs, reports); and provide legal interpretations, risk analyses, and solution-oriented recommendations in support of the operations, strategic mission, and purposes of The Missouri Bar.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts and agreements, including without limit, commercial contracts, vendor agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Recommend policy and procedure updates and assist with policy and procedure development.
  • Manage and coordinate special projects of strategic concern and/or legal importance to The Missouri Bar.
  • Serve as a committee liaison helping to educate and guide committee members on the committee scope, committee responsibilities, and current processes and coordinating committee and project activities with other departments and staff at the Bar.
  • Support committee efforts by researching background materials, analyzing information, following-up on assigned tasks or decisions, and ensuring key milestones and deliverables are accomplished on time.
  • Collaborate on state-wide communications on behalf of committee, including management and upkeep of websites.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics, including room setup, travel arrangements, and technical and administrative support for both in-person and virtual participation.
  • Proactively look for solutions and better practices to mitigate risk and maximize legal rights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.


Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
The Assistant General Counsel must be licensed to practice law in Missouri and be a member of The Missouri Bar in good standing (or be eligible for admission to practice in Missouri within a reasonable time after employment). A juris doctorate degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law school and 2 or more years of experience practicing law are required. Experience as in-house counsel or providing general counsel-type services to an organization, including experience in project management, or working with formal project plans, is preferred. Demonstrated experience working with governmental, non-profit, or trade/professional association boards or committees is also preferred. Proven ability to think strategically, analyze complex legal issues, and provide practical solutions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams) preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting boards, commissions, committees, or professional associations is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in project management, or in working with formal project plans, is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans is highly desirable.

The Facilities coordinator is responsible for overseeing and performing the day-to-day maintenance, operations, and upkeep of office buildings and surrounding grounds.

Purpose: The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and performing the day-to-day maintenance, operations, and upkeep of office buildings and surrounding grounds. This role ensures a safe, clean, and functional work environment by handling general maintenance tasks, light custodial and janitorial services, groundskeeping, and light construction or repair work. The position involves both hands-on execution and coordination with vendors or staff as needed to ensure timely and efficient service. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, technical knowledge of building systems, attention to safety and compliance, and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance.

General Qualifications: Must be well-organized and able to manage multiple priorities while anticipating needs and remaining proactive. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally and effectively with staff at all levels, as well as with visitors, vendors and contractors. Must be adaptable, resourceful, reliable and efficient, with the ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems as they arise. A high level of professionalism, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and service are essential.


Responsibilities:

  • General Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct routine inspections of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural elements; perform light construction, renovation, and repair tasks such as installing fixtures, painting, patching drywall, replacing hardware (e.g., locks, door closers), and fixing minor malfunctions in office equipment or appliances.
  • Custodial and Janitorial Work: Contract, schedule, and perform cleaning tasks, including floor care (sweeping, mopping, waxing), restroom sanitation, trash removal, window cleaning, and disinfecting common areas; restock supplies and ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Groundskeeping: Maintain outdoor areas through mowing lawns, raking leaves, landscaping, seasonal tasks (e.g., snow removal), and basic irrigation or pressure washing; monitor for hazards and ensure accessibility for employees and visitors.
  • Preventive Maintenance and Inspections: Develop and implement schedules for equipment checks (e.g., fire alarms, security systems, elevators) and building walkthroughs to identify issues early; document maintenance records and respond to work orders or emergency calls, including after-hours on-call duties.
  • Vendor and Supply Coordination: In coordination with the Office Manager, liaise with external contractors for specialized repairs (e.g., major HVAC or electrical work); manage inventory of janitorial, maintenance, and groundskeeping supplies; conduct cost analyses for purchases and track expenses.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations for workplace safety, hazardous materials removal, waste disposal, and energy conservation; conduct fire extinguisher/AED inspections and promote safe work practices.
  • Event and Space Support: Assist with office layout changes, furniture moves, and setup for meetings or events; coordinate parking and access as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience in building maintenance, custodial services, or a similar role, with demonstrated hands-on skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and grounds care.


Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency with power tools, equipment, and facilities management software (e.g., work order tracking systems, HVAC control systems).
  • Ability to perform light plumbing, electrical work, light carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
  • Basic technical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, building codes and best practices for facility operations.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with staff, vendors, contractors and building visitors.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, instructions, and technical documents to perform required maintenance, service, and support.

Receptionist
The receptionist is responsible for ensuring the switchboard is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on workdays, answering and directing calls, greeting visitors, and receiving front desk deliveries.

Purpose: The receptionist is responsible for ensuring the switchboard is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on workdays, answering and directing calls, greeting visitors, and receiving front desk deliveries. Relief switchboard coverage is available for a one-hour lunch, morning and afternoon breaks of 15 minutes each, and otherwise as needed. The receptionist also provides general office administrative support.

General Qualifications:
Must be well-organized and able to manage multiple priorities and anticipate needs. Must have the ability to interact effectively with staff of all levels and with callers and visitors. Must be adaptable, resourceful, efficient with a strong attention to detail. A high level of professionalism and ability to provide superb customer service is essential. 

Responsibilities:
•    Answer incoming calls and direct them appropriately
•    Provide callers with general information such as address, directions, website information, etc.
•    Greet visitors in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner
•    Receive front-desk deliveries and alert intended recipients promptly
•    Coordinate pickup of outgoing front desk packages
•    Monitor the mobar email inbox and respond to or direct inquiries as appropriate
•    Provide general office administrative support as directed
•    Send public information pamphlets for call-in orders when needed
•    Open and close the front desk and lobby area daily
•    Arrange and coordinate meetings/events including calendar invitations, catering, room setup, agenda, meeting materials, travel logistics, etc.
•    Prepare reports, emails, memos, letters using Microsoft Office and other tools
•    Maintain documentation and records of letters, memos, processes, reports, etc.
•    Assist with special projects, research, data collection, and other clerical tasks as assigned
•    Process invoices, reimbursements, and purchase requests
•    Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
