Duties include conducting discovery; arguing motions; presenting evidence at hearings; trying bench and jury trials; writing appellate briefs; appellate oral arguments; and providing legal advice.

Areas of law include tort, personal injury, administrative, civil rights, and equity.

About Us: The Civil Law Department for the City houses more than fifty (50) lawyers and twenty five (25) support staff.

The City Counselor serves as chief counsel to elected City officials, boards and commission, as well as departments and agencies – including the St. Louis Development Corporation, the Metropolitan Police Department, and Lambert International Airport.

Reviews and provides editorial assistance on board bills, contracts, leases and other legal
agreements for City departments.
Reviews Deeds of Trust and other real estate documents.
Interviews clients, city employees, fact and expert witnesses.
Obtains information from other city departments and court files.
Performs other duties as assigned.
