The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is hiring an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for an immediate opening.

This position will represent the State of Missouri in criminal cases referred from law enforcement entities within Newton County.

Specific tasks will include review of referrals for charging decisions, communicating with law enforcement, victims, witnesses and defense attorneys, representing the Department of Mental Health for civil involuntary detentions, and preparing and conducting evidentiary hearings and jury trials.

This position will be responsible for preparing for and conducting all hearings and trials related to the assigned case load and handling weekly associate or circuit court dockets.

Newton County utilizes Karpel case management. While experience with this program is not necessary, computer proficiency will be required.

Applicants must have a Juris Doctorate, be licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri, and be able to pass a background and drug test.

Salary will be between $60,000 and $65,000, commensurate with experience.
