The Kansas City, Missouri office of the law firm of Rouse Frets White Goss, P.C., seeks a licensed full-time attorney to join its Public Law Team to work with some of the region’s top land use, zoning and economic development practitioners on complex and interesting public law matters. The ideal candidate will have excellent academic credentials, strong research and analytical skills, and creative and effective problem-solving abilities. The candidate should have superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to be an effective advocate in challenging regulatory environments. The ability to build relationships and work with state and local officials and with the community at large is vital. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional judgment, the ability to effectively handle multiple projects, and have a demonstrated record of working well under pressure.

At least two years’ experience in public law practice or related and relevant practice areas and Missouri and Kansas licenses preferred.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Working with clients to prepare, process and monitor land use, zoning and economic development applications throughout the metropolitan Kansas City area.

• Working with clients on development compliance requirements such as MBE/WBE reporting, Tax Increment Financing compliance reporting, etc.

• Working with staff of planning and economic development agencies and project consultants on a relatively independent basis to facilitate, expedite and monitor project approval.

• Working with clients in the preparation of cases for presentation to and hearings before planning commissions, city and county governing bodies, administrative bodies, and economic development agencies. Attending these hearings which, depending on the municipality, may occur during normal business hours or in the evening.

• Strong proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• This position is located in the firm’s Kansas City, Missouri office and requires in-person performance. It is not a remote position.
