The Missouri Insurance Coalition is seeking applicants for the position of General Counsel/Government Affairs Director.

This position assists the Executive Director in accomplishing all goals of the organization, with a primary focus on government affairs, lobbying and public relations duties on behalf of the insurance industry.

The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in Missouri and have a least two years’ experience as a legislative staff member, a state agency legislative liaison, employment with a state trade association, or other relevant experience. Knowledge/understanding of the Missouri legislative process is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include:
• Serving as the association’s secondary spokesperson and representative before the Missouri General Assembly, administrative agencies and the media;
• Preparing and presenting testimony and background materials for legislative committee hearings, regulatory hearings, public speeches and media interviews;
• Preparing newsletters, press releases and various publications of the organization;
• Drafting and developing legislative proposals, and implementing strategy to pass/defeat legislation;
• Performing legal research and analysis of legislative bills, laws, rules and regulations for the association and individual members;
• Assisting with the administration of association events; and
• Coordinating association legal representation through amicus briefs in appellate courts and review the work product of retained counsel.
