The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a motivated and dedicated Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to join our team. osition Summary:
The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will be responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the State of Missouri. The ideal candidate will be comfortable appearing in court, knowledgeable about Missouri criminal law and procedure, and able to work closely with law enforcement, victims, and witnesses to ensure justice is served.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and prosecute criminal cases in Associate and Circuit Court.
• Conduct legal research, file motions, and prepare for hearings and trials.
• Interview and work with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers.
• Negotiate plea agreements where appropriate and in the interest of justice.
• Maintain accurate case files and documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri (or awaiting bar results).
• Strong communication, organizational, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Courtroom experience preferred but not required.
Compensation & Benefits:
