Position: CRU Attorney
Location: Jefferson City, Missouri.
Remote work with travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, along with required statewide travel for court purposes.
Salary range is $ 85,000 to $ 105,000 based on experience.
MOPS is seeking a full-time CRU Attorney to investigate convictions obtained by the State of Missouri for credible claims of actual innocence.
Conviction review is a specialized process that involves the following specific duties:
Conducting a thorough review of the trial transcript, trial exhibits, files, records, evidence, and testimony in these cases;
Determining acts and sources of any intentional or unintentional wrongdoing in the development and prosecution of these cases;
Testing the validity of evidence (e.g., analyzing chains of custody);
Investigating potential constitutional violations, such as Brady violations (failure to disclose exculpatory evidence);
Performing tasks as specified in Section 547.500, RSMo, and
Performing other tasks that may be assigned as needed to complete the post-conviction review process.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Missouri attorney, has a JD from an accredited college or university, and at least three years’ experience as a prosecutor and/or criminal defense attorney.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience with post-conviction reviews and/or criminal appeals.
Successful completion of a background check is required. This is an at-will position that serves at the pleasure of the MOPS Director.
