Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.


What you’ll do:
•Supervise and oversee the work of the Chief Counsel legal team, comprised of attorneys and legal support staff positions.
•Serve as primary department legal contact for all legal matters related to and coming before to the State Board of Education.
•Coordinate the Department’s legal response on all matters and serve as liaison to the Office of the Attorney General.
•Provide legal support in the form of memos, trainings, presentations, research, and other assistance as requested to members of the State Board, Commissioner of Education, Deputy Commissioners of Education, as well as for agency staff reporting to these positions.
•Provide legal advice on personnel matters, internal complaints, investigations, and Office of Civil Rights, Missouri Commission on Human Rights, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaints against the Department.
•Coordinate Department-held administrative hearings; administrative rulemaking; and records retention pursuant to Chapter 105, RSMo.
• Address and respond, or assist in preparing responses to constituent, legislative, and other questions regarding the Department.
•Assist in the development, drafting, and review of contracts, agreements, and procedures for the Department.
•Serve as the Department Privacy Officer; provide overarching departmental strategy and specific guidance and assistance relating to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); the Missouri Open Meetings and Records (“Sunshine”) Act; and general privacy issues.
•Perform other related work as assigned.
•Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.

All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
•Juris Doctorate from an ABA approved law school
•Member of the Missouri Bar in good standing
•Five years’ state agency or other public governmental agency experience
