The purpose of this position is to review, recommend charges and prosecute cases from assignment to final disposition by trial or guilty plea.

Assignments include a high volume of criminal misdemeanor and traffic cases in addition to assigned felonies under the supervision of a felony attorney.

This position may be assigned to the criminal, bad check or child support unit.

The work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney III.

Represents the State in misdemeanor docket, Director of Revenue cases, jury trials, motion and bond hearings, preliminary hearings, and guilty pleas. Reviews cases to determine trial strategies, subpoena witnesses, and to request additional investigations.

Negotiates with defense attorneys. Interviews witnesses and victims. Meets with witnesses, victims, and law enforcement regarding court appearances. Discusses plea negotiations with victims.

Visits crime scenes and examines evidence.
Handles depositions.
Researches various points of law, prepares motions, appeals, responses and arguments.
Prepares legal briefs and memos.
Prepares and files criminal charges.
Prepares charged cases for hearings/ bench trials and jury trials.
Prepares and conducts court dockets.
Reviews warrant applications for charges.
Assists with the preparation and review of search warrants for law enforcement.

Provides training for law enforcement.

Attends and participates in continuing education.

Assists other prosecutors with applicable docket.

Prepares, files and argues conviction appeals. Reviews case law and statute changes.

Participates in on-call rotation.

Maintains filing system.
