The Marion County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for a motivated and experienced attorney.

Marion County has two separate courthouses (Hannibal and Palmyra).

Experienced attorneys may handle traffic, conservation, low-level felonies and misdemeanors with the opportunity to handle high-level felonies as experience provides.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys (APAs) will appear regularly in Associate and Circuit courts to conduct motion hearings, preliminary hearings, bench trials, and jury trials. APAs also review referrals from law enforcement agencies, filing charges as appropriate and working with officers to develop stronger cases. APAs also join the on-call rotation, serving as a law enforcement point of contact for advice on criminal matters arising during their investigations, investigative subpoena requests, and assisting law enforcement in the issuance of search warrants. Most importantly, APAs stay in contact with victims of crime with the assistance of our Victim Advocate to keep them informed of the status of their case and seek justice on their behalf.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Applicants must be a member of the Missouri Bar in good standing. Interested candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in prosecution or criminal defense, work efficiently in an increasingly paperless environment, and possess a strong desire to work in public service.

The compensation package includes excellent health and retirement benefits as well as a salary ranging from $66,000-$85,000, based on experience.
