How many MCLE hours do I need to compete each year?
Missouri lawyers must fulfill the minimum CLE requirements set out in Missouri Supreme Court Rule 15. Each lawyer actively practicing law in Missouri, including Senior Counselors who are "EXEMPT" from the payment of bar dues, must complete 15 hours of CLE, including two hours of professionalism, ethics or malpractice prevention credit. The MCLE reporting period runs from July 1 through June 30 of each year. The annual report is due at The Missouri Bar no later than July 31.
I was just admitted in Missouri — what hours do I need?
Rule 15.05(e) now requires lawyers admitted or reinstated to The Missouri Bar after June 30, 2009 to obtain two hours of professionalism, ethics and malpractice prevention education within 12 months of admission or reinstatement. Lawyers admitted or reinstated to The Missouri Bar between June 30, 1990 and July 1, 2009 are required to obtain three hours of professionalism, ethics and malpractice prevention within 12 months of admission or reinstatement.
Will I receive a certificate after completing a program?
Missouri MCLE does not require that you submit a certificate. If you are seeking credit to fulfill your Kansas or Illinois requirements, you will receive a certificate.
How do I report my MCLE hours?
To file your Annual Report of Compliance electronically or to check your carryover credit from the preceding year go to "Report Your Hours — My MCLE" under the MCLE tab at www.mobar.org. (Log in required)
How do I receive MCLE credit in another jurisdiction?
MoBarCLE is an accredited provider in Missouri and routinely applies for Kansas credit for its programs and to Illinois upon request. For other states, you should contact the state in which you wish to report the credit regarding the applicable reporting information as each state has different rules regarding accreditation and approved formats.
