Government Relations

The public interacts with the legal system on a daily basis, so the effective and efficient administration of justice in our state matters greatly in the lives of every Missourian.  Working with elected officials, The Missouri Bar constantly seeks to improve the law, the administration of justice, and the quality of legal services available to the public.

Each year, the Board of Governors approves law improvement measures, drafted by committees of The Missouri Bar, for introduction in the Missouri General Assembly.  In addition, the Board of Governors and its Executive Committee regularly review legislation arising outside the Bar and may take positions on behalf of The Missouri Bar on individual bills, under certain circumstances.  The Missouri Bar also serves as an information resource for the General Assembly and responds to requests for information from legislative sponsors.  The Missouri Bar limits its activities to bills concerning the administration of justice, the integrity of the judiciary, improvement of the law, or the dignity of the profession of law.  During the legislative session, Government Relations staff track bills of interest to the legal profession or bills impacting the justice system and regularly provide information to members.
