Government Relations

The effective and efficient administration of justice in our state matters greatly in the lives of every Missourian. Working with elected officials, The Missouri Bar constantly seeks to improve the law, the administration of justice, and the quality of legal services available to the public. To assist in these efforts, The Missouri Bar serves as an information resource for the General Assembly and responds to requests for information from legislative sponsors.

Legislative Engagement

Stay up to date and informed about legislation that may affect the legal profession, your practice, and your clients through The Missouri Bar's Legislative Engagement Center. During the state legislative session, The Missouri Bar government relations staff track bills of interest to the legal profession or bills impacting the justice system, and uses the center to regularly provide information to members.

Limiting its activities to bills concerning the administration of justice, the integrity of the judiciary, improvement of the law, and the dignity of the profession of the law, The Missouri Bar may take positions on individual bills:
-Law improvement measures that arise within The Missouri Bar that are approved by the Board of Governors and drafted by committees of The Missouri Bar; and
-Legislation arising outside the bar, which the Board of Governors and its Executive Committee regularly review.

Legislative Digest

The Legislative Digest is provided as a service to all members of The Missouri Bar. The first volume, available in late March or early April, offers comprehensive summaries for all legislation introduced during the regular session that may be of interst to Missouri lawyers.

The second volume, available in late August prior to the regular effective date of newly enacted laws, summarizes Missouri laws approved during the current year's regular session of the General Assembly. It includes direct links to the text of the various bills, the newly enacted sections on the Revisor of Statute's website, and other tools to help navigate these new laws. The Legislative Digest also includes actions taken on bills considered by The Missouri Bar Board of Governors or its Exectuve Committee.
