· Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of marketing and engagement efforts.

Education and Experience:

· Juris Doctor required.

Experience is not necessary. A Kansas bar license (or taking the next bar exam) is required. Individuals licensed in other states, but working towards a Kansas or Missouri license are also encouraged to apply. Attorneys working in our Kansas City offices must be dual-licensed in Kansas and Missouri.

This is a full-time, in-office position with health and dental insurance fully paid by the firm for the attorney, long-term and short-term disability insurance fully paid by the firm for the attorney, paid time off (2 weeks your first year, 3 weeks per year after that, then adding a day of PTO per year until 4 weeks at 6 years, in addition to 8 paid Holidays). After a year with the firm you will be eligible for the 401k plan (upon the plan entry date) and the firm automatically contributes 3% of your salary to your retirement.

The starting salary for new attorneys looking for their first job upon passing the bar is $85,000, and those with limited/some experience will be considered for a range of $85,000 - $120,000 per year. The number of years of legal work experience possessed, as well as bar membership, impacts salary. Legal work experience is progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, in legal research, legal administration, or equivalent experience received after graduation from law school.

The Eighth Circuit Staff Attorneys support the Court as a whole rather than individual judges. The Eighth Circuit Staff Attorneys do so by maintaining high standards for the research and written work performed for the Court. Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have (1) a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school; (2) membership in good standing in the bar of a state, territorial or federal court of general jurisdiction; (3) at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, in legal research, legal administration, or equivalent experience received after graduation from law school; (4) excellent academic credentials, and superior analytical, research and writing skills; (5) excellent written and oral communication abilities, and strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to assume and delegate responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, any of the following will enhance a candidate’s suitability for the position: (1) a thorough understanding of organizational, procedural, and interpersonal aspects of managing a complex organization; (2) expertise in federal appellate, civil, and criminal procedure and evidence, and an informed understanding of the processes of constitutional and statutory analysis; and (3) a minimum of three years of federal court experience.


Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens. All employees of the Judiciary are “at will” employees in the excepted service. The U.S. Courts require employees to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees, which is available to applicants for review upon request. Employees are required to use the Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) for payroll deposit.

The successful candidate will be subject to a ten-year background investigation, and employment will be contingent upon a favorable suitability determination. Subsequent reinvestigations will be required every five years.

The Staff Attorney will provide representation to low-income individuals who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence in orders of protection, divorce, custody, and paternity cases in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County. In addition to direct client representation, this position may involve systemic advocacy on issues relating to domestic violence and sexual assault.


Lasting Solutions consists of an interdisciplinary team offering holistic advocacy and is co-managed by an attorney and a social worker. The Staff Attorney will work in close collaboration with the other attorneys, social workers, and paralegals on Lasting Solutions to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault in our community.


Responsibilities

-All aspects of family law litigation, including client interviews, drafting pleadings, discovery, fact-gathering, and courtroom advocacy
-Managing a caseload of diverse domestic violence survivors
-Conducting legal research and analysis as needed
-Carrying out community outreach and presentations in coordination with the LSP team and community partners
-Working collaboratively with Lasting Solutions’ staff, other Legal Services programs, and community partners serving this population
-Supervising law student interns

Requirements

-JD and admitted to practice in Missouri (or eligible to be admitted)
-Experiences working in family law and with survivors of domestic or sexual violence preferred, but not required
-Ability to build relationships with clients and community programs across lines of difference, including race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, and citizenship status
-Strong litigation, advocacy, communication and work ethic
-Open to creative and innovative ways of fulfilling the legal aid mission

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $66,000-$99,000. Specific salary offered to a candidate will be based on their experience. There are opportunities for advancement, including raises.
